Why did you join the MSA?

I joined when the Planning Board started the Downtown Planning Initiative, a precursor to the MSA.  I had lived in East Greenwich for a couple years, and, living on Main Street, I wanted to become involved to see how I could assist in improving the area.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

My favorite event is the Outdoor Movie on Academy Field.  It is a great event for families that has a very good community feel, especially during the time before the movie plays as people arrive and see their friends and neighbors.  Kids especially seem to enjoy the event, maybe as much before the movie starts when they play with their friends as during the movie.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

My favorite restaurant is either La Masseria or Red Stripe.  My wife and I really enjoy La Masseria, where I usually try different things and my wife reliably orders the pasta with grandmother’s sauce.  There will be competition for our favorite now that Red Stripe has moved to town.  We have gone to Wayland Square location several times, so we are excited that we can now walk to a Red Stripe.

Why did you join the MSA?

I was hoping to establish a 5K Turkey Trot race in EG.  The MSA welcomed the idea and we worked together to bring what is now a Thanksgiving Weekend Tradition to EG.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

The Turkey Trot!  I also love Arts on Main and the outdoor movies.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

I love shopping locally and love that our community has so many wonderful shops and restaurants.  I probably frequent The Savory grape and Sweet Twist the most, but certainly enjoy shopping at the other shops as well!

Why did you join the MSA?

I joined because I was interested in all of the events that went on in the town I loved living in.  I wanted to know more about these events, and all that goes in to putting them on, so I was invited to go to a meeting to see how it all works.  Once I met the members and felt the energy, I wanted to be a part of the MSA.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

Definitely the outdoor movie, since I organize that.  The turkey trot is a lot of fun, seeing the whole community out, families enjoying each other is the best.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

So many restaurants have a great vibe & prepare delicious food, but I have to say my favorite is Siena – the bolognese is ridiculous!  The Green Door is my favorite place to shop; the gifts are unique and special.  I always feel welcome when I shop there.

Why did you join the MSA?

I joined the MSA because I had heard about all the wonderful things they did in East Greenwich.  Michelle Clark and I wanted to start an annual 5K Turkey Trot in town and we felt this was the best avenue to accomplish this.  With all the member support and Town support, we started and have maintained what has become a wonderful tradition for the town.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

Due to my involvement, the Turkey Trot has become my favorite MSA event.  It has become a wonderful tradition not only for my family but many families here in East Greenwich.  We have raised thousands of dollars to help support local organizations and we have inspired non-runners and runners alike to get out for a wonderful day of physical activity.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

I love to eat at both Rasa and Besos, and Red Stripe is a wonderful addition.  The local shops like Sweet Twist, or Green Door never disappoint, and of course the expertise, selection and warming environment of the Savory Grape round out the perfect day in East Greenwich.

Why did you join the MSA?

I originally joined the MSA to get more involved with events going on in and around East Greenwich.  I had volunteered at the Turkey Trot and thought it was great how the community came together for an event that supported a great local cause each year.  I also wanted to learn more about what I could do to help in our community.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

My favorite MSA Event is Arts on Main (a Chamber of Commerce event).  I love seeing people of all ages come out in early spring to celebrate art and decorate our community.  It is almost like everybody is coming out of their winter hibernation and catching up with friends they have not seen in months.  The beautiful artwork that lines the streets is an added bonus.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

There are so many stores and restaurants to choose from.  We have been spending more time at Besos.  The food and drinks are amazing and it is always a friendly atmosphere at the bar.  Sitting out by the fire is always my first pick…

Why did you join the MSA?

To serve my town, and be a part of activities which might enhance the livability of East Greenwich; and, to meet other like-minded residents.  We early birds were part of the Planning Board’s attempt to have community volunteers brainstorm ideas and implement ways to enhance living in EG and attract visitors to our scenic, historic town.  We wound up our early involvement with the commuter rail group which stalled due to its financial impacts and the slowing economy.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

All of our outdoor activities, including litter details in the pouring rain!  (Leave your sanity and umbrella at home!)

My best favorite, to this day, is ‘Arts on Main’ (a Chamber of Commerce event), with kids and parents creating incredible art on our streets.  And, of course, setting up, manning, and cleaning up afterwards – the Turkey Trot water stops – greeting those early rising and smiling, fun-loving, crazed runners.  I’ve retired my water stop duties in favor of trying to stay warm by running the event!  It’s not pretty, but it’s warmer.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

We’ve got a lot of great eateries in EG, but I’m partial to the one where my wife cooks all the meals!  She is a fabulous cook.  However, on those special occasions when we go out, we both love the exceptional food and service at Siena.

Why did you join the MSA?

I joined in an effort to further integrate myself with the evolution and growth of the town I grew up and live in, and to create meaningful relationships with residents and businesses.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

I absolutely love the Main Street Association events and efforts which focus on the encouragement of health and well-being such as the Turkey Trot as well as our increased participation in the Farmers Market.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite restaurant or shop, but quite simply enjoy the diversity of the businesses and products which continue to blossom and improve our standard of life.

Why did you join the MSA?

We recently relocated from Indiana and I wanted to become involved in the community. I noticed that many of the events that we attended were sponsored by Main Street Association. It is exciting to feel a part of East Greenwich.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

My favorite event is movie night. I love standing on the top of the hill and seeing all the blankets and lawn chairs stretched out waiting for the movie to begin. What a fun way to spend time with family and friends!

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

There are things I love about all the restaurants the shops. The quality and convenience are amazing. Back to Basics carries the allergy-friendly foods we need and a visit to The Troll Shop is an actual treasure hunt! One of my favorite restaurants is Papa Franco’s picking up a pizza after a stroll on Main Street — the best!

Why did you join the MSA?

Our East Greenwich home and my business-office bookend Main Street.  The MSA mission – enhancement of East Greenwich – is therefore also a primary goal of ours.  Joining the Association, which consists of scores of people with the same goal, struck me as a great and natural fit.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

East Greenwich Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot.  Admittedly, volunteering/watching this year MIGHT have been more enjoyable – and less painful! – than running last year.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

La Masseria Ristorante.  After growing up in the area, I spent about a decade in New York City before returning home.  Andrea/Jose/Jim and staff achieve the perfect New York/Rhode Island feel, and also satisfy my Italian New-York-City-born wife’s high standards for linguini and clams!

Why did you join the MSA?

In 2012, as new residents with roots in East Greenwich and RI, we knew we were putting down roots of our own.  Learning about the MSA and recognizing the potential of East Greenwich, my wife and I volunteered hoping to contribute our experience, knowledge, and time to our community.

Favorite MSA event(s)?

Summer Outdoor Movie, Turkey Trot, and our direct contributions to the Odeum.

Favorite EG restaurant or shop?

Food – Rasa!  Siena!  Red Stripe!  Raw Bob!
Shop – POP (on Duke St.), Civil, and the Farmers Market.
