Luminaria

Illuminated East Greenwich

It’s a tradition spanning more than a quarter of a century…

It started with the Scott family, who moved to Stone Ridge from New Mexico, where paper displays are the tradition. According to Anne Sauerbrey, on an afternoon in December that first year, the women of the neighborhood and their young children got together to fold their bags. They were told the bags were to be folded three times: in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. In Mexican tradition, the luminaria lights the way for the Christ child.

After the supplies are paid for by the Stone Ridge residents (thanks to our wonderful Luminaria Committee who organizes this adventure for us), all of the net proceeds are donated to the East Greenwich Holiday Food Basket Program.

We welcome the entire community to enjoy our neighborhood’s holiday tradition so please spread the word to your family and friends.

The 2019 Luminaria will be on Saturday, December 14, from 5pm – 9pm.   Rain Date 12/15
